Trump Predicts Democrat Political Doom Over Spending Bills

Former President Donald Trump has said he believes Democrats are in for a further shellacking at the polls during next year’s 2022 midterms if the party presses forward and passes two major spending bills at the center of President Biden’s economic agenda, because most voters will see them as a tax-and-spend “rip-off.”

“If they vote on this bill, I think we’ll pick up an extra 30 seats,” Trump told Fox News, projecting a GOP landslide in 2022. “Because people don’t want a tax increase, and they don’t want a Green New Deal, and that’s what this is.”

“It is a combination of those two things.”

Former President Trump slammed President Biden’s spending agenda as the “Green New Deal bill,” warning that, if passed, the American people will face tax increases, and the Democratic Party will lose dozens of seats in the House of Representatives during the 2022 midterms.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Friday, the former president discussed President Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda and the bipartisan infrastructure package pending in Congress.

Biden has struggled to reach a deal that satisfies both progressive and moderate Democrats on both the reconciliation and infrastructure bills in both the House and the Senate.

“It is hard to believe they won’t do it, but I think if they do it, it’s going to cost [Biden] a lot in the election,” Trump said. “Because the people don’t want it. It is a rip-off for America. It is a big tax increase.”

Late Friday, Democrats passed Biden’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that appears to be stuffed with hundreds of billions in spending not related to roads, bridges, airports, railways, and waterways. But in order for the measure to have passed, 13 Republicans crossed the aisle and voted yes, without whom the bill would have failed because a half-dozen Democrat progressives voted “no.”

Trump said that the measure “is not an infrastructure bill,” which is the same observation other Republicans have made, adding that instead it “is a Green New Deal bill.”

The former president went on to tout members of his party, saying “we have a lot of great people in the Republican Party.”

“We have some bad ones, like everything else, but we have some tremendous people,” Trump added.

“The one thing I’ll say is, the Democrats, they’re vicious, they have horrible policy, but, they stick together,” Trump said. “This is the first time I have seen it in a long time.”

Fox News noted: “The former president was referring to the infighting between the White House and Democrats and among lawmakers in both the House and the Senate on the spending packages. Last month, the White House and the Senate Democratic leadership struggled to reach an agreement to secure the support of moderate Democrat Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona.”

Prior to late Friday’s vote, Trump predicted — wrongly, it turns out — GOP unity in opposing the Biden-supported measures.

“It is hard to believe they won’t do it, but I think if they do it, it’s going to cost [Biden] a lot in the election,” Trump said. “Because the people don’t want it. It is a rip-off for America. It is a big tax increase.”

Several Republicans voiced their frustration with their 13 colleagues who crossed over to give Biden a huge win when Democrats again seemed on the verge of defeat.
